Twitter's "Ads Revenue Sharing" Program Goes Global, Paying Out Millions to Eligible Creators

Earlier this month, the social media giant Twitter, now rebranded as X, introduced its groundbreaking "Ads Revenue Sharing" program aimed at incentivizing verified creators to stay on its platform. The program, spearheaded by X's owner, Elon Musk, is now available globally and is set to distribute an impressive $5 million in the first round of creator payments, cumulatively from February onwards.

Eligibility Criteria for the Ads Revenue Sharing Program

To qualify for the "Ads Revenue Sharing" program, X users must subscribe to Blue (formerly Twitter Blue) or Verified Organizations. Additionally, they need to have generated "at least 15M impressions on their cumulative posts within the last 3 months." The threshold for eligibility also includes having a minimum of 500 followers.

Substantial Payouts Reported by Content Creators

Since the program's inception, several verified creators have already received significant payouts, ranging from five to six figures. This financial incentive aims to retain top talent and encourage more creators to participate actively on the platform.

How X Determines Creator Payouts

X utilizes the ads displayed in replies to creators' posts to determine their payouts. The focus on reply-based ads encourages creators to post content that fosters engaging conversations with their audience. However, X has established certain guidelines to maintain a safe and positive environment. Content promoting sexual content, violence, criminal behaviors, gambling, drugs, alcohol, and "get-rich schemes" is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, creators are not allowed to attempt to monetize copyrighted content that they do not own.

X's Growing User Base and Bot Removal Efforts

In addition to the global launch of the "Ads Revenue Sharing" program, Elon Musk took to Twitter to share some impressive statistics regarding X's user base in 2023. Despite ongoing efforts to combat bot activity, the chart displayed by Musk indicated that X's monthly users reached an all-time high. At one point, the platform boasted an astonishing 541.5 million monthly users. However, it is worth noting that the chart lacks specific labels for the months, and the metrics used by Musk to define "monthly usage" have not been explicitly clarified. This leaves room for some discrepancy, especially when compared to the industry-standard MAU (monthly active user) metric.

Differing Reports on X's Traffic

While Elon Musk's chart reveals remarkable growth in X's user base, other third-party measurement tools have presented a contrasting narrative. For instance, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince pointed to declining traffic to the Twitter domain. Additionally, Similarweb's reports have also highlighted reductions in Twitter's traffic alongside the launch of Threads.

Embracing a New Era of Creator Monetization

X's "Ads Revenue Sharing" program marks a significant milestone in the world of social media. By empowering creators with lucrative financial incentives, X aims to revolutionize content creation and user engagement on its platform. As the program gains traction globally, content creators and social media enthusiasts eagerly anticipate a new era of monetization and creative opportunities on X.
